But what do these values truly mean in action? How do they shape our company and the way we work? To answer these questions, we sat down with our CEO, Jeff Shaffar, to discuss the journey of defining our values, the ones that resonate most, and how they continue to drive our success.
The Journey to Define Our Values
While our core values were initially established when the company began, they have evolved over time to better reflect who we are today. Our current set of values was meticulously thought out, and shaped with input from our employees because they are the heart of our organization.
“The process of defining our values started with a wide-ranging list of potential ideas that were voted on by employees. From there, we honed in on the ones that truly represented what Ventura MedStaff stands for and the qualities we hold most important.” Jeff remarked. This collaborative approach ensured that our employees felt a sense of ownership and connection to the values we live by.
“When employees have input, they believe in the mission,” explains Jeff. Employees who align with their company’s mission have been shown to feel more job satisfaction, support, and pride in the work they do.
What Values Stand Out the Most?
Among our values Passion and Integrity stand out as personal favorites for our CEO.
Passion is one of our core values because we’re passionate about life and what we do. Jeff describes it as a powerful combination of devotion and emotion. “If you’re not passionate about something, it’s hard to give your all,” he shared. “Passion fuels belief. When you believe in what you’re doing, it leads to positive outcomes—and that success inspires you to keep going.” At Ventura MedStaff, passion is the internal flame that drives everything we do.
Integrity is another core value because we believe in always doing the right thing, even when it’s hard. “Without honesty, what are you doing?” Jeff asks. “Integrity is a moral compass that ensures our actions align with our values. It’s foundational to building trust.”

“We consistently treat others as we want to be treated,” Jeff emphasized. “This is something we drive home every day. When you follow that mindset, all the other values naturally fall into place.”

- Community & Compassion: These values go hand in hand as we actively make a difference in the communities we serve. This includes volunteering our time and resources to local organizations like Wounded Warriors Family Support, Toys For Tots, Nebraska Community Blood Bank, and Foodbank for the Heartland.
- Loyalty: We are loyal to our team, travelers, and clients, creating long-term support by investing in our internal team members through ongoing training and development and annually covering $300 of CEU costs for our travelers.
