Payroll Manager

We are seeking a Payroll Manager to join our team!

Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with multi-state laws and government regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with multi-state, federal, and local payroll wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Identifies and recommends updates to payroll processing software, systems, and procedures.
  • Manage payroll staff, work with the Controller on hiring, terminations, etc…
  • Oversee weekly traveler payroll processing; review and edit documents, correct errors, and balance payroll for each pay period.
  • Process and oversee bi-weekly internal corporate payroll.
  • Verify salary adjustments, garnishments, and retroactive pay for all employees.
  • Maintain payroll policies and procedures and work collaboratively with HR.
  • Respond timely to employee inquiries on all payroll questions.
  • Coordinate year-end tax filings with the Controller.
  • Administer Time and Attendance system and user training for team leads and supervisors.
  • Ensure accuracy of year-end reconciliation and W-2 reporting of relocation expenses.
  • Assist HR with internal policies and process documents for payroll. This documentation should include but is not limited to, overtime process, wage increases, new employees, employee data changes.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate employees to achieve departmental goals.
  • Set performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support employee development.
  • Oversee daily operations, including reviewing and approving timecards, time-off requests, and work schedules.
  • Interview, hire, and train new team members to ensure a skilled and effective workforce.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and leadership, providing updates and feedback.
  • Resolve issues or challenges and implement process improvements.
  • Monitor employee performance, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with company policies.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have multi-state payroll experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient with payroll software. Experience with Paycom strongly preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll related experience with Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field OR equivalent of 3 years supervisory/lead experience with Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred, not required.
  • Healthcare staffing industry experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 15 pounds at times.

Salary Range:

$80,000 – $87,000/per annual (based on experience)
