Job Summary:
Ventura MedStaff is a growing, multi-state organization with annual revenues of approximately $50–100 million, operating in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Senior Accountant / Controller to lead our financial operations and partner closely with executive leadership to drive profitability, compliance, and long-term success.
The Senior Accountant / Controller is responsible for overseeing financial operations of the organization, including accounting, taxes, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, audits, and risk management. This role will lead the Finance function, establish strong internal controls, and provide strategic financial insight to ownership and executive leadership. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring both strategic vision and operational execution in a multi-entity, multi-state environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting.
- Monitor budget performance and report significant variances to leadership.
- Support capital investment analysis, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance team to meet departmental and organizational goals.
- Set performance expectations, conduct reviews, and support professional development.
- Oversee daily operations, including workflow planning and process improvements.
- Interview, hire, and onboard new team members as needed.
- Ensure strong communication and collaboration across departments.
Supervisory Duties:
- Lead, supervise, and motivate employees to achieve departmental goals.
- Set performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and support employee development.
- Oversee daily operations, including reviewing and approving timecards, time-off requests, and work schedules.
- Interview, hire, and train new team members to ensure a skilled and effective workforce.
- Communicate effectively with staff and leadership, providing updates and feedback.
- Resolve issues or challenges and implement process improvements.
- Monitor employee performance, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with company policies.

Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to translate data into strategic insights
- Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality and ability to build relationships
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with financial systems and the ability to adapt to new technologies
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- MBA preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting
- Experience supporting a multi-state organization strongly preferred
- Prior leadership experience managing finance teams required
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
- Standard business hours, with flexibility as required during peak financial cycles.
